Life as a Tea Pot

Modern Technology

I have fallen in love with the amazing thing that is 4oD, especially as recently they’ve been showing some absolutely kick-ass documentaries that due to my working hours (and inability to remember to programme the VCR) I haven’t been able to watch.

4oD basically means I can re-watch stuff I’ve missed, mostly for free… to be honest I doubt I will pay to watch something using 4oD as I can probably find it elsewhere (albeit less legally). The BBC should take note, they really need to pull their finger out and make content I actually want (other than ‘Doctor Who’) then put it up on their iplayer for longer than 7 days!

Right now I’m downloading ‘Life After People‘ and have in my to-watch list ‘Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer‘ (Nick Broomfield documentary I’ve been wanting to watch for awhile… actually I think they have all of his awesome documentaries to watch for free).

Hopefully this will signal the end of the TV licence.

Pictures Everywhere

It’s quite easy to be an amateur photographer these days, what with camera phones starting to be better than some of the older digial cameras! Everyone can take pictures and there’s no shortage of places to upload your images to share.

There’s Photobucket, which I use as a general… well, bucket. Images I want to post on my blog I put there and images I’ve come across and want to share I always upload to photobucket. Then there is Flikr, which is arguably the better image host out there since it’s seems to have been designed with amateur (and professional) photographers in mind, particularly as you are able to put a creative commons licence on your images. Another one of the major ones is ImageShack, I have no personal experience with it but it’s listed as the 5th largest image hosting site. (There’s a list of the major ones at wikipedia.)

I have a Flikr account if anyone wants to take a nosey.

Portal

I’m no stranger to blogging, I’ve had a livejournal for at least two years now and I was playing around with Blogger. WordPress however seems to be exactly what I want in a free blog host, especially as I can have a number of blogs using the same account!

I keep a science-fiction review blog (where I am struggling to write a decent review for ‘Dune’), and recently started a blog where I plan to review the various war films, books and stage productions I see. I sort of keep a Sherlock Holmes blog but I’m not happy with the layout so… it’s a bit naff, currently using what I plan to use as my Holmesian!crack!fic blog as where I’ve stuck my Holmes articles.
